Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Kelowna

Kelowna's only fully trained ART clinic. Effective, evidence-informed trauma therapy that creates real shifts, often in fewer sessions than you would expect.

Trauma therapy that works differently

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an evidence-informed approach to trauma that works with how the brain actually stores and processes distressing experiences. It is structured, it is targeted, and for many people, it produces meaningful results in a fraction of the time traditional therapy requires.

Reflective Soul is the only clinic in Kelowna with fully trained ART practitioners.

    What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

ART is a relatively recent development in trauma therapy, created by Laney Rosenzweig and now used by clinicians across North America, Europe, and beyond. It combines eye movement techniques with guided imagery and memory reconsolidation to help clients process and resolve distressing experiences.

ART works at the level of sensation, image, and nervous system response. You do not need to describe your trauma in detail. You do not need to relive painful memories at length. Clients can experience genuine resolution without having to narrate everything that happened.

Most clients notice a shift within one to five sessions. Some concerns resolve more quickly, others take longer. ART is designed to move, and most people feel that.

    What ART can help with

ART is effective for a wide range of concerns, including:

    • Trauma and PTSD
    • Complex and developmental trauma
    • Childhood trauma and adverse experiences
    • First responder and occupational trauma
    • Anxiety and panic
    • Phobias and specific fears
    • OCD and intrusive thoughts
    • Grief and loss
    • Depression
    • Abuse, physical, sexual, or emotional
    • Distressing memories that keep resurfacing
    • Performance anxiety
    • Sleep disturbance related to trauma or stress
    • Low self-worth rooted in past experience

If you are not sure whether ART is the right fit for what you are carrying, a free consultation is a good place to start.

How ART Works

  • You work at your own pace

ART works at the level of imagery and nervous system response, not narrative retelling. You control how much you share verbally. Many clients find this one of the most valuable aspects of the approach.
  • Results tend to come in fewer sessions

ART is designed to move efficiently. Most clients notice real change within a handful of sessions, rather than months or years of open-ended work.
  • It works with how the brain processes memory

ART uses what we know about how the brain stores experience to help clients update the emotional charge attached to difficult memories, without erasing or suppressing them.
  • It integrates naturally with other care

ART can be used alongside existing therapy or counselling, or as a focused standalone intervention for specific memories or concerns.

Who ART is a Good Fit For

ART works well for people who:

  • Are dealing with a specific trauma, memory, or event that continues to affect them

  • Find it difficult or overwhelming to talk about what happened in detail

  • Want a structured, goal-oriented approach rather than open-ended conversation

  • Are experiencing physical symptoms like sleep disruption, hypervigilance, or avoidance connected to past experiences

  • Are first responders or work in high-stress, high-exposure professions

  • Have tried talk therapy and felt like it was not getting to the root of things

  • Are ready to work through something and want a therapy designed to move

ART is also well suited to people who are generally functioning well but carrying something that keeps showing up in relationships, in the body, or in recurring thoughts and reactions.

Kelowna's only fully trained ART clinic

ART requires specialized training beyond standard counselling credentials. At Reflective Soul, our ART practitioners have completed full ART training, which means you are receiving the therapy as it was designed to be delivered, with the depth and precision that makes it effective.

What to expect from an ART session

Your first ART session begins with a conversation. Your practitioner will take time to understand what you are working through, explain the process, and make sure ART is the right fit before anything begins. There is no pressure to disclose more than you are comfortable with.

During the session, you will be guided through a structured process that involves following a moving stimulus with your eyes while holding an image or memory in mind. This is not hypnosis. You remain fully conscious and in control throughout. The process feels unusual to most people at first, and then surprisingly manageable.

Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes. Most people leave feeling noticeably lighter, sometimes significantly so, even after a first session.

ART is not designed to be indefinite. The goal is resolution, and your practitioner will discuss how many sessions may be helpful based on what you are working through.
